Week in Review: Crown Princess Victoria, 13-19 June

Here's what Crown Princess Victoria wore the week of 13-19 June:
  1. Gym visit, plus a party at Madeleine's apartment, 15 June.
  2. Cathedral visit, 16 June.
  3. County Governors Dinner, 16 June.  Roger Vivier shoes.
  4. Cathedral visit, 17 June.
  5. Private wedding dinner at Drottningholm, 17 June, a) on the Elie Saab runway, and b) in action.  Repeat from those fantastic portraits released early this year.
  6. Cathedral Visit, 18 June.
  7. Government reception, 18 June.  Also Elie Saab Spring 2010 Couture.
  8. Pre-wedding dinner and concert, 18 June, a) on the red carpet, and b) on the Elie Saab runway.
  9. The wedding, 19 June.  Oh, did you forget that was this week?  Good thing I reminded you.
Ho-hum, just another week in the life of a Crown Princess.

Best and Best of the Week
I tried to name a worst of the week, I really did, but the closest I came was #6, and there's nothing wrong with it.  Seriously, if that's the worst you can do, you deserve 2 bests.

Victoria and Daniel are on their honeymoon now, and they don't have anything scheduled until 21 August (hell of a honeymoon, huh?), so it might be a while before we have another week in review post for Victoria.

Week in Review: Letizia, Princess of Asturias, 13-19 June

Here's what Princess Letizia wore the week of 13-19 June:
  1. Velazquez Prize of Plastic Arts presentation, 14 June.  The return of the pirate necklace!  And so, so much better this time around.  THIS is how you do an all neutral outfit: the textures of the jacket, trousers and shirt all play off each other, and the necklace becomes the fabulous focal point.
  2. 'Toisones de Oro' Awards, 15 June.  I'm not feeling the ruffles with the structure on the jacket.  But you can tell this was an event at which the King and Queen were present because she fancied it up a bit from her usual business wear.
  3. World Cup match, 16 June.
  4. Arriving in Stockholm, 18 June.  Did she not think there would be photographers outside the hotel?  Felipe arrived in a suit, so......
  5. Pre-wedding concert, 18 June.
  6. Crown Princess Victoria's wedding, 19 June.  I don't know about the braid thing she had going on, but anytime she wears the hair up I'm a happy camper.  Down and with a center part is just not a proper pedestal for tiara display.
Best and Worst of the Week
Red!  Aww yeah.  But, honey: eat a sandwich.  This was only worn for the concert - Felipe and Letizia missed the dinner portion of the night's events because they were still getting ready....and I think the arrival photo shows us everything we need to know about that.

Royal Trend Watch: Twin Edition

Princess Máxima, today:

Luxembourg's Princess Alexandra, also today:

WHOOPS.  What's more embarassing, the fact that Alexandra is 20 years younger than Máxima, or the fact that this is the dress they both chose?

It's NATAN, by the way, in case you hadn't guessed.

(Much more commentary on this....outfit...to come when we run through our awards for Luxembourg's National Day celebrations, to be posted as soon as all the pics are in!)

Random Tidbits

Things that are currently flipping my skirt up, just because I feel like sharing:
  • That infamous black dress worn by Lady Diana Spencer during her engagement (you remember, the cleavage-y one) was recently sold at auction.  I thought this piece, interviewing the owner of the auction house, was a fascinating behind-the-scenes look.  Bonus pic of the dress and other Emanual items that went on the auction block.  [Fashionista]
  • And, saving the best for last:  MORE WEDDINGS!!!
    • Our favorite little engaged flower from Victoria's wedding, Tatiana Blatnik, will wed Prince Nikolaos on August 25th in Greece.  The most urgent question of all: will this be a tiara event?  Well, ok, that's the second most urgent question, but we don't have any hope of learning what the dress looks like before the big day.
    • And another shining star, Charlene Wittstock, will also get her day in the sun - Albert has finally announced their engagement.  Why this announcement couldn't have come last week to save poor Charlene the awkwardness of being "just" a girlfriend at a royal wedding is beyond me, but I won't complain - another amazing wedding dress is in the works!
Update: Did you see Charlene's ring?  Holy crap!  Best royal engagement ring in quite some time - and by best, I mean BIGGEST:

Week in Review: Princess Máxima, 13-19 June

Here's what Princess Máxima wore for the week of 13-19 June:
  1. Opening of 'Pygmalion' at the Carre Theater in Amsterdam, 13 June.
  2. At the Learning Orchestra in Amsterdam, 17 June.
  3. Arriving in Stockholm for the big wedding and attending a wedding rehearsal, 17 June, (a) on the NATAN runway and (b) in Stockholm.  This jacket is a repeat from Queen's Day, when she wore it exactly as shown on the runway.  I think the coat is cute, actually, but don't get why it needs to be 3 sizes too big.
  4. Private wedding dinner at Drottningholm, 17 June. Another repeat.
  5. Wedding luncheon hosted by the King at Sturehof Castle, 18 June. Okay, this is super cute, right?  Exactly how a princess should do casual.  Didn't see any pics with the hat on, but I like it anyways.  I saw some pictures of her luggage being unloaded at the hotel and there was a Berry Rutjes Jr. hat box, so perhaps this was the magic inside.  (All her luggage was labeled with orange tags and professionally printed cards with her full title on them.  Oh, to have professional packers.)
  6. Pre-wedding dinner and concert, 18 June, (a) straight from the Valentino runway to the (b) red carpet.  Another repeat.  She wore a diamond ornament in her hair even though it was a non-tiara night, proving her magpie tendencies are well in tact, bless her.
  7. Shopping in Stockholm, 19 June.  Ahoy, sailor!  Another possibility for what could have been in the hat box.
  8. Crown Princess Victoria's wedding, 19 June. I chided her for not bringing a new tiara out of the vaults for me to gush over, but then I ran down exactly how much she's wearing:  bandeau tiara and collet necklace (marble-sized diamonds on both), diamond earrings, 3 diamond stars on the sash, a diamond brooch on her back, and diamond bracelets on both hands as well as diamond rings.  So maybe I shouldn't complain after all.
Best and Worst of the Week
I love this pic with Willem-Alexander.  Straight from the J. Crew catalog to the Stockholm sidewalk.  And this cute casual outfit is the one that jumps out at me from between all the diamonds and couture, it's so deliciously well-coordinated without looking like something you would need a stylist and amazing resources to put together.  Obviously, though, Máx does have a stylist, which makes this disaster of a dress on the right all the more inexcusable.  Could it be any more unflattering?  Could it?
