Open Post: King Harald and Queen Sonja's 80th Birthday Celebrations

The joint celebration for King Harald V and Queen Sonja's 80th birthdays is today (May 9) and tomorrow (May 10), and this is your open post for chatting on both days, whether you are able to watch things live (when and where available) or are catching up ahead of our posts on the events.

Here's a partial itinerary (all in Oslo time, which is 6 hours ahead of the Eastern time zone; here's a time zone converter):

• May 9
• 6:30 pm: The King, Queen, and many of their royal guests appear on the palace balcony as the crowd sings them the birthday song.
• 7:00 pm and after: Guests begin to arrive for the evening's white tie (and tiara!) gala banquet. Guest arrivals and greetings, the procession into the banquet hall, and the speeches will be broadcast. Check out our post on the gala banquet here.
• May 10
• 11:00 am: The royal family and guests board the royal yacht for a luncheon cruise. Check out our post on the cruise here.
• 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm: Royal guests travel with the family in a motorcade to the Oslo Opera House, where the government gives its dinner for the King and Queen. This will likely be black tie, no tiaras. The arrival will be broadcast.
• 10:30 pm: A fireworks display at the Opera House.
