Breaking Jewel Sightings: The Windsors at the Diplomatic Reception

Well, well, well. It's been quite a number of years since a decent number of photographs were allowed from inside the annual Buckingham Palace Diplomatic Reception. This year I guess they decided to give us a holiday treat! I'm surprised enough I decided we'd do it breaking news-style here.

Swanky gold adorned the Queen's usual white uniform tonight - actually a really good version of her typical evening gown. Diamonds joined the party in spades. And you can even get a peek at some bling for the men, there; this is the event of the year where the royal men wear the actual Garter from the Order of the Garter on the leg. (Click the names of all the pieces listed here for more info where available.)

The Duchess of Cornwall also stuck with white, which has become her typical evening uniform of late. This one's an oft-repeated Bruce Oldfield ensemble. She did bring us something new on the jewel front, though: massive pearl and diamond earrings! The pearls are the size and shape of Queen Victoria's Pearl Drop Earrings, although the top portion appears slightly different. Innnnnnteresting.

A new and unmistakably Jenny Packham dress for the Duchess of Cambridge tonight. Bit of a fairy princess flair, no? She paired it with what has swiftly become her go-to tiara and earrings combo.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not attend. They were at another event this evening. (Hard to say if they'll attend this event in the future. I've seen people claim it's restricted to just these attendees - the Queen and previously Prince Philip with Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate, but that's not actually true. Other family members attended in the past and they've just used this line up for the past few years. Time will tell.)
